The Brighton Fringe is the biggest open access, mixed arts event in England and this year will run from 5th May - 4th June 2017.
In 2016 we ran The Warren: Main Space; and The Warren: Theatre Box, The Warren: Studio 2 and The Warren: Studio 3. For 2017 we have more exciting plans for the Warren site, including an excitingly re-imagined version of Studio 2.
There are also opportunities for unconventional performance areas around our ‘traditional’ theatre spaces. We’re open to all suggestions, so please send us details of your ideas, however crazy they may seem. We love the challenge of fitting unusual performance concepts into our theatre and site.
The last few years have been a huge success and seen our ticket sales across the board increase massively, with Otherplace Productions now firmly established as one of the major players in Brighton Fringe. In the past our programme has included theatre, music, cabaret, comedy, spoken word and family shows, and we are looking for a similarly exciting and diverse range again for 2017. We’re keen to build on past successes, which include winning the Best Venue Award award on a number of occasions, not to mention having Upstairs at Three and Ten voted Best Comedy Venue in the South in 2010 by comedy audiences despite its small size. We are most proud, however, of the fact that across the years so many shows with us have won awards, that countless more have been nominated, and that many, many, more have gone on to have successful runs in Edinburgh and beyond, and there’s nothing more we love than the chance to welcome back performers and their new work following their previous successful Fringe runs.
2016 was the eleventh festival under the belts of Otherplace Productions and the fifth incarnation of The Warren site. There were well over 500 performances across our venues, ranging from in-house productions to visiting companies to solo shows; performed by international companies, national stars, local performers, Brighton festival veterans and Fringe debutants alike. Nearly every show was reviewed by at least one of The Argus, Latest 7, Broadway Baby, The Stage, Fringe Review, fringe report, the New Current, FringeGuru, Chortle or Fringe Hub. We produced and distributed 50,000 high quality brochures all over Brighton, Sussex and London, and attracted over 100,000 people through the doors, with companies performing with us selling nearly £200,000 worth of tickets.
We aim to produce an equally diverse and fantastic programme in 2017.
